What to do now

  1. Step 1: Mark December 1, 2026 when the application opens
  2. Step 2: Check the GPA (2.75 minimum) and ACT (29 or below, four-year only) rules
  3. Step 3: Gather transcript, ACT score and activity list
  4. Step 4: Apply by February 15, 2027 to be safe (the page also lists February 28)
  5. Step 5: Watch for an email decision by the end of April

Who can apply

“I am a home-schooled student. Can I apply?”
In the funder’s own words, from treasury.alabama.gov, checked Oct 20, 2026.

The FAQ answer is yes. Applicants must be Alabama residents and U.S. citizens enrolling in an eligible Alabama school. They must show financial need, have at least a 2.75 GPA, and, if going to a four-year school, an ACT score of 29 or below. Two-year applicants do not submit ACT scores. Award money is paid only to the college, for credit to the student's account, not to the family.

  • High school senior or first-time college freshman
  • U.S. citizen
  • Alabama resident
  • Plan to enroll at an eligible Alabama school
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Minimum 2.75 GPA
  • ACT score of 29 or below (not required for two-year school applicants)

Timing

The page conflicts. It lists December 1, 2026 to February 15, 2027 in one place and December 1, 2026 to February 28, 2027 in another. We show the earlier date, but it is not confirmed which is right. Some criteria text still says fall 2026.
