Unconfirmed: check with the funder

We couldn’t confirm these on an official page. Treat them as open questions, not facts.

  • ?Whether a for-profit private school can apply (the notice tells private schools to apply as nonprofits)
  • ?Whether a school without SAM.gov registration started by Sept 30 can still make the deadline

How to apply

  1. Step 1: Confirm your SAM.gov registration is active (it can take weeks)
  2. Step 2: Pick Category 2 and plan a safety project: training, a reporting tool or a threat assessment team
  3. Step 3: Submit the SF-424 in Grants.gov by October 30, 2026
  4. Step 4: Finish the full application in JustGrants by November 6, 2026

Who can apply

“Private K–12 schools, including private charter schools, should apply as "nonprofits."”
In the funder’s own words, from ojp.gov, checked Oct 9, 2026.

Private K-12 schools are listed as eligible, but they apply in the nonprofit category, so a for-profit school should ask BJA first. You need an active SAM.gov registration, a Grants.gov account and a JustGrants account. Money is only for school safety: training, anonymous reporting tools, threat assessment teams and mental health crisis training. No match is required. Only one application per applicant.

  • Active SAM.gov registration (BJA said to start by Sept 30, 2026)
  • Two-step submission: Grants.gov, then JustGrants
  • Only for school-violence prevention: training, reporting tools, threat assessment teams
  • No cost match
  • One application per applicant

Timing

Step 1 (SF-424 in Grants.gov) is due October 30, 2026 by 11:59 PM ET. Step 2 (full application in JustGrants) is due November 6, 2026 by 8:59 PM ET. A new round is usually posted each year.
