How to apply

  1. Step 1: Have your 501(c)(3) letter and tax ID ready
  2. Step 2: Enroll your school on the Box Tops site
  3. Step 3: Ask families to download the Box Tops app, pick your school and scan receipts within 14 days of each purchase
  4. Step 4: Cash the checks within 18 months or the money is lost

The rules also open the program to “501(c)(3) home school associations” with “a class of 15 or more students” in PreK to 8th grade. Schools must teach at least one grade from PreK to 8th, with regular faculty and a curriculum built on reading, writing and math. Preschool-only programs are not eligible. General Mills may ask for proof of 501(c)(3) status.
