Who can apply

“Any teacher is welcome to submit an entry. Examples: public schools, including charter schools; private schools, home educators.”
In the funder’s own words, from constitutingamerica.org, checked Oct 10, 2026.

Teachers write a lesson plan on a passage of the Declaration of Independence focused on "consent of the governed." Separately, every teacher who helps 10 or more students enter gets a $50 Amazon gift card, and the teacher with the most entries wins $1,000 and a presentation at the school. Students (grades 6 to 12 and college) can win $1,000 to $5,000 scholarships; the high school contest is open to students in "public, private, religious, home school programs, and charter schools." No AI may be used in teacher entries.

  • K-12 teacher (home educators count)
  • Original lesson plan, no AI
  • One entry per person

Timing

Entries due 11:59 p.m. Eastern, May 31, 2027.
