Who can apply
“Grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations and institutions based in Texas for the purposes of developing public humanities programs.”
Programs for K-12 students during school hours and courses for academic credit are excluded, as are profit-making programs and programs that advocate a single point of view or ideology. Rural grants are for groups in counties of 60,000 residents or fewer. Requires IRS tax-exempt status and an active, public SAM.gov registration with a UEI. Groups acting mainly as fiscal sponsors are not eligible, so an informal co-op cannot borrow another nonprofit's status. Food and activities before the grant period are not allowed. Cost-share can include in-kind help such as volunteer time.
- IRS tax-exempt status, based in Texas
- Active public SAM.gov registration with a UEI
- Program is for the general public, outside the school day
- A humanities expert helps plan or run it
- Mini-grants need a 1:1 cost-share; rural grants (counties of 60,000 or fewer) need none
Timing
Rolling. The application must arrive at least six weeks before the grant period starts (the grant period covers all parts of the program, including promotion, and runs 2 to 12 months); decisions come within ten business days. Major grants (up to $20,000) have LOIs due February 15 and August 15.
