What to do now

  1. Step 1: Check you have 15 or more kids in the garden program and got under $5,000 in garden grants in 2026
  2. Step 2: Take current photos of the garden site
  3. Step 3: Get your tax-exempt verification as a file
  4. Step 4: When the Common Application form re-opens in November, apply online by February 5, 2027

Who can apply

“Any nonprofit organization, school district, university, government entity, or tax-exempt organization, such as religious organizations and Tribal governments, in the United States”
In the funder’s own words, from kidsgardening.org, checked Oct 21, 2026.

You need at least 15 youth in the garden program (groups with more than 50 youth get priority), must serve an under-resourced community, and must have received less than $5,000 in garden grants in 2026. Past KidsGardening winners from 2025 or 2026 grants can't apply. Money is for starting or improving a youth garden or greenspace; at most 50% can go to salaries or stipends. The extra $750 goes to 15 programs picked for a specialty award.

  • Nonprofit or tax-exempt status (tax-exempt verification is a required attachment)
  • 15 or more youth in the garden program
