Help · Fix it
Real problems, real fixes
Every entry here comes from an actual support case at a real school — this page grows the way good help pages should: one solved problem at a time.
A teacher can't take attendance — every tap fails
Almost always a permissions mismatch: the teacher isn't assigned the students they're trying to mark. The director opens Students → picks the student → checks the teacher is listed. If a specials teacher (art, music, PE, Bible) sees the class but can't mark it, make sure the class itself lists them as the teacher — register marking follows the class, not just assignments. If it still fails, log out and back in once; if THAT fails, text Sam — same-day fix is the norm.
A parent can't log in
First: are they using the QR slip the school printed for their child? Each slip links one family to one child — a parent who signed up without the slip has an account attached to nothing, and the school will see them in the approval queue under Families. Approve them there and everything appears. Password forgotten: the Forgot your password link on the login page emails a reset — check spam.
The morning email said attendance wasn't taken — but it was
The daily brief reports on YESTERDAY, respects your school's meeting days, and skips days marked No School on the calendar. If it still looks wrong, check Settings → your meeting days are right, and the calendar has your days off. If a class register was genuinely missed, the email now names how many — Attendance → My registers shows each teacher what they owe.
A student appears twice, or a name is spelled wrong
Fix the spelling on the student's record (Students → the student → edit). If there are genuinely two records for one child, don't delete either yourself — records may hang off both. Text Sam and the duplicate gets merged properly, history intact.
Someone joined the staff by accident (or someone unexpected)
New joiners arrive with no access — they can't see a single student until a director opens Staff and assigns their role. If you don't recognize a name, just leave them role-less (they see nothing) or remove them. Every admin gets an email the moment anyone uses the invite link.
The invite link needs to be changed
The staff invite link lives under Settings, visible to directors only. If it's ever been shared too widely, text Sam and it gets rotated — old links stop working immediately, and everyone already on staff is unaffected.
A grade or report card looks wrong
One function computes every grade in Homebook — the gradebook, the report card, and the transcript can't disagree with each other. So if a number looks wrong, the inputs are wrong: check the scores on the assignment list and the term the class is graded in. Published report cards are snapshots — after fixing, publish again and the family sees the corrected card.
The lunch count is off
The lunch tick lives on the attendance row — teachers tick it while taking the roll. The morning prep report counts ticks as of the moment it's opened, so a late-marked class updates the count live. Refresh before cooking.
Text or email Sam directly — support ends with a human here, and same-day fixes are the norm, not the exception.
