Homebook data requests: how to see, fix, or delete information
Effective October 5, 2026
Who can ask
- A parent or guardian of a student, about their own child.
- A student with a Homebook login, about themselves. (Arkansas gives teens aged 13 to 16 these rights by law. Homebook offers them to every student.)
- The school, about any of its students, at any time.
What you can ask for, and who decides
| You want to... | Your child’s school records (attendance, grades, schoolwork, report cards, transcripts, discipline and support notes, health and allergy details, pickup list, tuition, messages with the school, photos the school added) | Things you or your child entered for optional features (College & Career quiz answers and saved scholarships; a student’s own login) |
|---|---|---|
| See a copy | Yes. We pass your request to the school, which helps prepare it so other children’s information is protected. If the school has not answered within 21 days, we prepare the copy the law requires ourselves. | Yes. We send it to you. |
| Fix something wrong | Yes. Tell us what is wrong. The school checks it and corrects its own record. If you show it is wrong and it is not fixed, we follow up until it is. | Yes. You can change most of it yourself; we fix the rest. |
| Delete it | Your school relies on these records to keep your child safe and to keep its own legal records, so the school decides. We send your request to the school and do what the school tells us. | Yes. You can delete College & Career information yourself in Settings, or ask us. A parent or the student can ask us to delete the student’s login and the notes the student sent to the office; we tell the school, then delete them within 30 days unless a law requires a note to be kept. |
| Stop collecting | Ask the school. | Turn off College & Career in Settings at any time. Ask us or the school to stop collection from your child: we switch off the login as soon as we confirm who you are. |
Your school’s staff create its school records. Homebook keeps them for the school and does not delete them on its own, except where the law requires. Photos are different: a family can ask for a student’s photo to be removed at any time, and we delete it after telling the school. Routing requests to the school never takes away a right the law gives you directly.
How to ask
- In the app (fastest): open Settings at the top of your family or student page, then Privacy & choices, and use the privacy request box just below it. Because you are signed in, we already know who you are.
- Email: privacy@gethomebook.com (or sam@gethomebook.com). Say who you are, the student’s name, the school, and what you want.
- Ask the school office. It can send the request to us or handle it directly.
You never need to give a reason. We will never ask for your password.
What happens next
- Right away: you get a confirmation that we received it, with a request number (by email for parents; on screen for students).
- Within 2 business days: we confirm who you are. If you asked in the app, that is already done. If you emailed, we check with the school that you are the student’s parent or the student, so a stranger cannot see or delete a child’s record.
- For school records: we send the request to the school. The school decides and tells us what to do.
- Within 30 days: we finish and tell you what was done. If the school decides not to change or delete a record, we tell you that, and you can take it up with the school.
Asking to delete something will not shut off your Homebook access if Homebook can still work without it. We keep a short record of each request (who asked, when, what was done) for 3 years, without your child’s records in it.
