Delete your account

Effective August 17, 2026

The short version: Email sam@gethomebook.com from the address on the account and ask us to delete it. We reply within two business days and finish within 30 days. If you are a parent, your school owns your child's school record — we will pass the request on, and delete your login either way.

1. How to ask

Email sam@gethomebook.com from the email address on the account, with the subject Delete my Homebook account. Tell us the name of your school. You do not need to give a reason.

We reply within two business days to confirm we have it, and complete the deletion within 30 days. We will never ask for your password.

2. What gets deleted

Your login — email address, name, and password hash.
Your profile and role at the school, and any staff record attached to it.
Messages you sent, and any notes or files you uploaded yourself.
Push notification tokens for your devices.

Deleted means deleted, not hidden: the rows are removed, and they fall out of our backups as those backups age out, within 30 days.

3. What we cannot delete on our own

Homebook holds each school’s records on behalf of that school. If you are a parent or guardian, your child’s attendance, grades, health notes and enrollment history are the school’s record, and a school usually has to keep them for a period set by its own policy or by state law.

So if your request covers a student record, we forward it to your school and act on their answer. Your own login is deleted regardless of what the school decides about the student record — those are two separate things, and you do not have to wait for one to get the other.

If you are a school and you are closing your Homebook account, tell us and we will delete the whole school. You can export everything as CSV first, and we keep an export available to you for 30 days afterwards before the data is gone for good.

4. What we keep, and why

We keep the minimum a business has to: records of payments already made (an invoice is an accounting record, and Stripe keeps its own copy), and security logs needed to investigate abuse. Neither contains school records, and neither is ever used to rebuild a deleted account.

5. Deleting the app is not deleting the account

Removing Homebook from your phone stops the notifications and nothing else. Your account stays until you ask us to delete it, using the email above.
